Battery storage systems: Four companies signed to meet the new efficiency guideline

The guideline was presented yesterday at Energy Storage Europe 2017 in Düsseldorf. For the first time in Europe it establishes a standardized measuring procedures for the efficiency, control accuracy, reaction speed and standby losses of residential lithium ion battery energy storage systems.

More manufacturers expected to follow

The new guideline was developed by the German Energy Storage Association (BVES) and the German Solar Industry Association (BSW-Solar) together with several test institutes and manufacturers Solarwatt, Sonnen, Kostal and SMA already signed to meet the criteria. It is expected that Fronius and Varta, that were involved in the development of the guidelines, will also sign to implement them within the next days. A representative from Fenecon yesterday told photovoltaik, the German sister publication of pv Europe, his company would also adhere to the criteria.

The voluntary test guideline is a first step to increase the transparency on the battery storage market. More transparency is also needed about battery aging and cycle stability. (HCN)
