In addition, all battery cells are subject to six safety mechanisms, for example, a fuse interrupts the current flow in the event of a short circuit and overcurrent. In the event of overpressure, a safety valve on the cell opens to ensure pressure equalisation. A robust aluminium housing protects each cell from mechanical damage. The battery management system (BMS) is the heart of the safety concept. It permanently monitors all battery cells.
