The PowerTitan 2.0 integrates a stringent Power Conversion System (PCS) in the 20-foot battery container. It has a large battery cell capacity of 314Ah, is equipped with Stem Cell Grid Tech and offers systematic liquid-cooled temperature control. The all-in-one system significantly increases the power density and can be equipped with 5MWh batteries and 2.5MW PCS.
The string PCS can charge and discharge the battery racks individually, increasing the discharged energy capacity of the system by over 7% over the entire life cycle.
System efficiency of 89,5 %
The system has an efficiency of 89.5 %, which corresponds to an increase of 2 %. Cell-to-grid technology (C2G) simplifies the energy conversion between direct and alternating current.
By integrating the liquid-cooled thermal management system, both the PCS and the battery modules inside the container can achieve balanced heat dissipation. Therefore, the PowerTitan 2.0 maintains a lower temperature difference between cells and modules of 2.5 degrees Celsius, resulting in a 20-year system lifetime and improved charging and discharging efficiency.
Thanks to the bionic heat equalisation technology with artificial intelligence (AI), the system can automatically switch to the appropriate heat dissipation method depending on the battery and ambient temperature and system operating status. This technology ensures that the system's energy consumption is reduced to 50 kWh per day - 40% less than the average consumption in the industry.
Stem Cell Grid Technology aims to improve grid stability and increase power quality. It incorporates leading technologies such as enhanced continuous high and low voltage bridging, multi-level wideband oscillation suppression, flexible inertia support, microsecond level voltage build-up and gigawatt level black start. With these technologies, the system can seamlessly transition between high voltage ride-through (HVRT) and low voltage ride-through (LVRT), achieve adaptive resonance from 0.15 Hz to 2.5 kHz and restore power to the local grid when the voltage fluctuation is below 2%.
Real time cell monitoring with AI
The PowerTitan 2.0 offers a comprehensive safety concept for the cell, electrical and system levels to ensure compliance with strict safety priorities. Artificial intelligence is used to monitor the cells with great accuracy in real time to detect changes and provide early warnings to prevent thermal runaway. With four layers of protection against excessive electrical current and dangerous arcing, the risk of electrical hazards is significantly reduced.
The power electronics components and battery modules are insulated by a compartmentalised design, ensuring a specific two-hour fire protection for each individual compartment. The system features temperature, smoke and fire gas detectors, gas extinguishing systems and water-based fire suppression systems to safely and effectively prevent the risk of battery fires and reduce the risk of re-ignition, continuing Sungrow's track record of zero fire incidents.
Optimised operation and maintenance procedures
The comprehensive system is pre-installed so that key parameters can be set before leaving the production site, reducing on-site commissioning time and ensuring early revenue for project owners.
Thanks to the back-to-back installation concept, the storage system requires less floor space. For example, a 100 MWh energy storage project with the PowerTitan 2.0 requires only 1200 square metres.
The PowerTitan 2.0 also features automatic state of charge (SoC) calibration by adopting the string PCS and reduces the time it takes to upgrade the power plant by 20 minutes thanks to over-the-air (OTA) technology.
In addition, the modular design of the battery pack and PCS enables time savings in operation and maintenance (O&M), ensuring high system availability.
In addition to simplified maintenance and servicing, the PowerTitan 2.0 also offers C5 corrosion protection and IP55 protection, making it durable even in harsh conditions. The system can be operated at 100 % rated power even at altitudes of up to 4500 metres above sea level.
It also has a reduced sound pressure level, which ensures quieter operation in noisy environments.
Designed for large-scale projects with limited available space
The new PowerTitan2.0 is primarily designed for grid stabilisation projects (in combination with PV or wind) with more than 100 MWh, where the available space or land is limited. In contrast, the predecessor model PowerTitan 1.0 with a capacity of 2,75 MWh is suitable for projects under 100 MWh with more available land, according to the presentation in Madrid yesterday afternoon. The first orders for the PowerTitan 2.0 have already been received for European projects.
