Back in UK with a large-scale PV project

Having announced the signing of EPC contracts for two solar farms with more than 100 MWp capacity in the UK last December, Belectric is now adding a further 28.5 MWp to its UK EPC pipeline, underlining its presence in the market. The solar energy specialist has been awarded the contract to build the Bracon Ash solar farm near Norwich in Norfolk, England, by Luminous Energy, a well-known UK renewable energy and battery storage developer. The solar power plant is expected to be operational in the summer of 2024 and will generate enough electricity to meet the annual needs of more than 9,500 homes.

N-type bifacial solar modules

In order to achieve the highest possible yields in a country with lower solar irradiation by European market standards, Belectric is using cutting-edge technology with bifacial n-type modules. Bifacial cells are able to absorb solar radiation from the front and back of the module. N-type cells are built in reverse compared to commonly used solar cells, with the negatively doped side serving as the base. This results in higher efficiency and increases the profitability of the solar farm.

David Bryson, COO of Luminous Energy, says, "We are pleased to continue contributing to the fight against global climate change with the construction of the Bracon Ash solar farm. This is in line with South Norfolk Council's emissions reduction targets and the national ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. It also underlines our commitment to working closely with local communities. The final design, which has incorporated local community feedback, is expected to result in a net biodiversity gain of 203%."

Close cooperation with Luminous Energy

Belectric and Luminous Energy first joined forces in 2013 when the two companies signed a development cooperation agreement and subsequently developed a number of successful projects together. The two companies are pleased to be working together again ten years later. Once completed, Belectric will also take over the operation and maintenance of the Bracon Ash solar farm.
