The San Vicente campsite on Spain’s sunny east coast is turning to solar power as part of a broader move toward more sustainable tourism. With limited roof space available, the system had to be especially efficient. The 37.8-kilowatt installation comprises 63 high-performance modules from Aiko, each rated at 600 watts. Installed by Genkii, the system now covers up to 80 percent of the campsite’s electricity needs – without relying on battery storage.

The San Vicente campsite will soon be able to supply guests with its own solar power. This has already led to lower electricity costs and increased returns from energy sales. Despite the sound business case, the biggest challenge was the limited available space for installation. According to calculations from manufacturer Aiko, the investment will pay for itself in under five years with a return on investment (ROI) of 394 percent.

As the campsite is located near the coast, the modules are exposed to dust, sand and harsh environmental conditions. The solar modules installed are therefore optimised for partial shading, and the low degradation rate ensures stable performance year after year. (nhp)
