The Kotyli and Neo Syrakio solar farms will together provide 567 MW of capacity. Construction is set to begin this spring, with commissioning planned for 2027. Once operational, the projects are expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 140,000 households annually.
Project developer Meton Energy S.A. has signed 10-year bilateral Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with PPC and RWE Supply & Trading, securing the sale of electricity from the new solar farms. The €418 million investment is backed by €175 million from the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility under the “Greece 2.0” plan, with the remainder covered by €169 million in commercial debt financing and contributions from the shareholders.
940 MW operational by the end of the year
RWE Renewables Europe & Australia (51%) and PPC Renewables (49%) have already energised five solar farms with a combined capacity of 210 MW and completed construction on a sixth, bringing the total to 315 MW. Energisation of the latest project is expected soon. Three additional solar farms totalling 625 MWp are scheduled to be operational by the end of 2025. Altogether, the nine projects will reach 940 MW and are located in Western Macedonia, Northern Greece, within the area of the former Amynteo opencast lignite mine.
“With our latest investment decision, we underpin once again our strong commitment to the Greek market with now roughly 1.5 gigawatts of solar capacity in deployment,” said Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia.
