Portugal ambitious on climate targets
Portugal is increasingly influential in the European solar market. In 2023, 61 per cent of the country's electricity was generated from renewable sources. With favourable regulations and incentives, the government is encouraging the development of the PV sector. In August 2023, the Portuguese Ministry of the Environment issued new permits for the connection to the grid of PV projects with a total capacity of 5 gigawatts.

These projects are expected to be fully operational by 2030. These actions are in line with the goals set in the Plano Nacional de Energia e Clima 2030 (PNEC), aiming to raise the proportion of renewable resources in national energy production to 85 per cent by the end of the decade. Therefore, these conditions are ideal for the expansion of the EPC and O&M services market, areas in which Nomad Electric specialises. Long-term, Portugal is targeting climate neutrality by 2050.
