Norway: First large solar park connected to the grid

The developer is Solgrid AS, a joint venture between the energy companies Østfold Energi, Akershus Energi and the investment company Obligo.

The entire plant is scheduled for completion in spring 2024. The Furuseth solar power plant will have an annual production of 6.4 GWh, which is equivalent to the consumption of around 320 single-family homes.

Higher yield with bifacial solar modules

In May 2022, the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) granted Solgrid AS a license to build and operate the Furuseth solar power plant in the municipality of Stor-Elvdal in Innlandet county. This was the first land-based solar power plant producing on an industrial scale to be granted a license in Norway. Construction work began in May 2023. According to the company, it has been delayed due to difficult ground conditions.

The plant uses bifacial modules, which allow better access to sunlight. In snowy areas such as Østerdalen, this leads to a significant increase in production due to the strong reflection from the ground in spring. (hcn)
