The energy company RWE is further expanding its portfolio of solar plants in Spain. The company has commissioned the Casa Valdes solar park near Madrid. The 97,740 bifacial modules installed on an area of 97 hectares supply electricity for about 30,000 Spanish households every year. The plant reaches a peak output of 44 megawatts. In addition, the bifacial modules provide more yield than monofacial modules due to their double-sided use for electricity generation.
Bifacial modules for other projects
RWE also uses bifacial modules for the Spanish solar projects under construction Puerta del Sol, very close to Casa Valdes, and Las Vaguadas in the province of Badajoz. A total of 54 megawatts of solar capacity will be built at these two sites. "What a lovely end-of-year gift and fantastic news to start the new year! With the commissioning of Casa Valdes, RWE will contribute to achieving the Spanish climate targets," emphasises Katja Wünschel, Managing Director of Onshore Wind and Solar Europe & Australia at RWE Renewables.

She continues: "Solar in Spain is a great partner for the energy transition. And innovative technologies like the bifacial modules we have deployed in Casa Valdes help us to make the most of this energy source and this location. I'm looking forward to the completion of our solar plants still under construction and the other projects coming up this year in our core market, Spain."
Participation in tenders prepared
Because RWE wants to build more plants in Spain. After all, the country is ideally positioned to expand wind and solar capacity due to its geographical location, attractive external conditions and ambitious climate targets. RWE Renewables Iberia already operates onshore wind farms in Spain with a total capacity of more than 480 megawatts. Furthermore, there are solar plants that feed alternating current into the grid with a total capacity of more than 90 megawatts.

In addition to the new solar projects, RWE is building the onshore wind project Orkoien to test innovative technologies for more sustainability. The company is also preparing its Spanish development projects for participation in the "Concurso de Capacidad". These are the Spanish tenders that regulate the access of green power plants to the transmission grid. (su/mfo)
