These and further results are published in the 13th edition of the Global PV InstallerMonitor 2020/2021. The survey sheds light on the German rooftop PV segment and provides exclusive insights from the perspective of the PV installers.
The growth of the photovoltaic (PV) market is also reflected in the German residential storage market. According to current analyses by EUPD Research, 106,000 home storage systems were installed in 2020. This ongoing market growth is driven by various factors, such as the development of the PV market, the growing interest in electric mobility and rising electricity prices.
Three quarters of installers already offering storage systems
The results of the Global PV InstallerMonitor 2020/2021 by EUPD Research, show that a large proportion of installers have recognized the potential for residential storage systems. In 2020, three quarters of the German PV installers were already offering storage systems. The Global PV InstallerMonitor 2020/2021 targets PV installers in the main European PV markets and Australia. This year, 250 German installation companies participated in the survey. The report provides exclusive insights on the latest developments on the rooftop PV segment.
Did you miss that? Installers with lower brand loyalty
About one quarter of the German PV installers does currently not offer storage solutions and is neither planning to do so. There are different reasons why these installers are not interested in offering storage solutions: a comparison over the years shows that prices play a particularly important role.
Prices decreased by 21 percent
For the comparison over the years, only the three most important reasons for not offering storage solutions were considered. Over time, high prices were consistently ranked as the most important reason. In 2020, a lack of demand and a lack of expertise were also mentioned as one of the top three reasons for not offering storage systems.
However, the actual prices for storage solutions have been following a downward trend. In the period from 2017 to 2020, a price reduction from 889 EUR/kWh to 699 EUR/kWh net was evident. This corresponds to a decrease of 21 percent.
“The results of the surveys still reveal a need for advice among installers in order to be able to overcome the predominant reasons for not offering storage solutions. Accordingly, there is a potential for engaged manufacturers," says Hanna Schmole, project manager of the Global PV InstallerMonitor 2020/2021 at EUPD Research.
As in previous years, the Global PV InstallerMonitor 2020/2021 for Germany includes an entire chapter on storage solutions. Furthermore, the study includes the recurring topics of the report such as which module-, inverter- or storage brands installers carry in their portfolio, how and where they purchase their components, and to which extent they are satisfied with the brands they offer. In addition, this year there is an exclusive chapter about electric mobility. (hcn)
