Tax relief for extended battery use

The Skatteverket' s latest decision in July 2024 also allows tax relief for batteries that are only partially used to store self-generated electricity. The authority has capitulated to the protests of the Swedish PV community. This means that private households are now entitled to a tax reduction, even if the batteries connected to a PV-system are not exclusively charged with self-generated power.

This means that the tax authority will also explicitly support home storage systems that are used for grid stabilisation services or are charged with cheap power from the grid to avoid electricity price peaks. Private individuals whose applications were rejected with reference to earlier rules can now apply for a review of the Swedish tax authority's earlier decision.

Attractive 50% income tax deduction

The "Grön Teknik" tax incentive means that private individuals can deduct 50% of the battery installation and material costs from their income tax. The application is made by the installer directly to the authority. If several private individuals own the system, they can all benefit from the deduction, up to SEK 50,000, currently around €4,400, per person per year.

New battery systems can now become even more profitable for private households thanks to the subsidisation of the extended battery usage options.
