DH2 Energy wins the first European renewable hydrogen auction

“We are delighted that DH2 Energy's Hysencia project has been selected by the European Commission after the extremely competitive process which the European Hydrogen Bank set for this first auction. Of the 132 projects that submitted bids, 119 were considered eligible and then competed in the final round. To be amongst the 7 winners in this European-wide auction provides DH2 Energy with great satisfaction and confirms DH2 Energy’s position as a leading developer in renewable hydrogen production” commented the deputy general director of DH2 Energy, Vincent Tessé.

With 5 of the 7 winners being located in Spain and Portugal, the auction also confirms the importance of the Iberian Peninsula for upstream production of renewable hydrogen in Europe.

DH2 Energy’s Hysencia project is located in Plasencia del Monte close to Huesca in Spain’s Aragón region and consists of 35 MW of electrolyzer capacity which will be powered by a captive 49 MWp solar photovoltaic plant. Hysencia’s hydrogen will be used in the industrial and mobility sectors and will avoid the emission of 115 kilotons of CO2 over the first 10 years of operation. The project demonstrates DH2 Energy’s leading position in Iberia.

This auction is managed by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and carried out within the framework of the “European Hydrogen Bank” to promote the production of renewable hydrogen and is one of the many initiatives of the European Union Innovation Fund.
