New AI-based software to maximize energy savings for homeowners

To support the clean energy transition with grid balancing, dynamic electricity rates are gradually being introduced across Europe. Dynamic rate tariffs encourage homeowners to reduce grid electricity use during hours of peak demand by charging a higher price, and shift their grid use to times of lower demand by offering lower prices during these periods – with prices changing every 15–60 minutes.

Helping homeowners to capitalize on the economic advantages of dynamic rates, SolarEdge recently launched its new AI-driven dynamic rate optimization solution. Available with a SolarEdge Home system, the SolarEdge ONE energy optimization system’s new dynamic rate capability is designed to autonomously optimize energy production and consumption on behalf of homeowners in-line with dynamic prices.

How does the SolarEdge ONE energy optimization system work?

1. Creating a personalized 24-hour optimized energy plan for the home by learning homeowners’ specific solar production and energy consumption patterns and preferences using predictive AI algorithms.

2. Linking to day-ahead electricity markets in-line with grid regulation and subsequently making hundreds of real-time decisions throughout the day to optimize energy use according to changing utility rates.

3. Tapping into real-time weather forecasts in order to optimize solar energy production times and when best to deploy that energy within the home or battery.

4. Autonomously charging a homeowner’s battery with grid electricity at the lowest price for self-consumption during peak hours when prices are at their highest, while also allowing homeowners to continue receiving the feed-in tariff by selling excess PV to the grid.

5. Optimizing back-up power reserves in the battery to ensure reliable back-up power. (mfo)
