The German meter manufacturer EasyMeter and the Belgian smart energy monitor Smappee are introducing a meter that provides real-time insight into the energy consumption of individual appliances and thus involves the consumer in their energy consumption. EasyMeter and Smappee are convinced that this insight is the key to success for the smart meter that until now has not achieved its potential and intended results. The EU wants at least 80 per cent of all analogue energy meters to be replaced with smart meters by 2020. The objective is to reduce emissions and energy consumption in Europe by nine per cent.
The smart meter with Smappee technology involves an additional Smappee port, the S1 port, to which the smart energy monitor can be connected. This simple and cheap solution can extract information on the real-time energy production of solar panels and the consumption data for each individual appliance. So the consumer can follow this information in the Smappee app and respond immediately. That enables them to adjust their consumption behaviour and really achieve savings. (nhp)
