Edisun Power builds three large solar parks in the Madrid area

The Fuencarral grouping has a total of 941 MW and consists of three large solar parks: Pradillos with 390 MW, Fuencarral with 291 MW and Loeches with 260 MW. The solar plants are spread over a total of nine separate locations in order to have sufficient open space between the solar plants. The clou: the infrastructure, such as the grid connection, is utilised particularly efficiently.

Loeches project completed the last major approval process

The three projects have grid access, connection rights granted, an environmental licence (DIA) and an interim administrative permit (AAP). The Loeches project already completed the last major approval process at the end of September 2024 and received the official construction permit (AAC for short). However, according to Edisun, the building permits for Pradillos and Fuencarral are also well on track.

The investment in the solar projects is in line with the commitments set out in the Spanish National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) 2023-2030. This plan includes targets for the expansion of renewables and the planned reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Maximum time until the start of operation up to eight years

Once Edisun has received the building permit, it must now state within three months when the solar installations will be connected to the electricity grid. The maximum time period until the start of operation and obtaining the official authorisation for use may be up to eight years. Edisun is therefore under no time pressure and can build or resell the solar parks in a cost-efficient, financially optimised and risk-minimising manner. (nhp)
