Sunrock and Delta Development announce the commissioning of the innovative Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Dorsten, North Rhine-Westphalia. It complements the photovoltaic system of the project developer Delta Development’s showcase property and provides the tenant with continuous fossil-free energy. The system thus contributes to the project's sustainability strategy.

Sunrock, a leading European developer of photovoltaic systems for large roofs, has, in collaboration with the Dutch energy storage solutions provider iwell, commissioned a Battery Energy Storage System on the roof of the Delta Development's logistics property, "The Levi Strauss & Co. European Distribution Center" in Dorsten, North Rhine-Westphalia. This system has a capacity of 1,000 kWh and stores the energy generated by the solar modules that is not immediately used in operation. This ensures the optimal and secure supply of fossil-free and locally generated energy to the user.
Last year, Sunrock equipped the pilot project with a large-scale PV system with a capacity of 3.45 MWp. This saves the user over 1,300 tonnes of CO2 each year, equivalent to the emissions of around 908 single-person households. The solar power solution is part of the property's comprehensive sustainability concept. For the first time in Germany, the Cradle-to-Cradle approach was applied and all building materials were precisely documented in a building passport. CO2 monitoring began during construction and will continue throughout the building's lifetime to compensate for all emissions by 2050 and achieve climate neutrality. The project thereby aligns with climate protection goals.

The addition of battery storage solutions to photovoltaic systems is part of Sunrock’s strategy to expand its service portfolio with local integrated energy solutions, which will also be available in Germany in the future. These combine battery storage solutions for optimised usage with an intelligent energy management system that calculates the most efficient and profitable energy flow in real-time. The system can also be connected to charging stations for electric vehicles, enabling dynamic charging. (mfo)
