The system by Sunpower is not designed as a UPS, but the inverter has a backup output. Once a power failure has been detected, the buffer can kick in in less than 20 milliseconds. The inverter has the ability to form a grid. This means that the system can generate a grid signal at the backup port that can be used to power the loads in the event of a power outage.
